What is the Secret of Promotion?

Today’s blog is specifically dedicated to employees- employees who serve, who contribute their skills to a company’s growth and who help that company grow.

Before hiring you, the company already has certain requirements for the position for which they are hiring you. For example, if the position is for a sales manager, then the sales manager is expected to handle other sales executives under him. He is expected to ensure that the team achieves its target for the month and he might also be expected to travel anywhere in India to attend training for a new product launched by the company and after returning, he is expected to train the other sales executives in such a way that when they go out on the field to sell the product, they have no doubts. This is what the company expects- that the person hired for that position must already possess these skills. Your promotion depends on how many of these skills you have acquired.

However, if you are looking to get promoted from a sales manager to a regional manager, then you need to display the qualities of a regional manager while you are still a sales manager. Your boss observes whether the qualities he expects in the person at the regional manager’s position are present in you and only then he will consider promoting you.

This is a secret sharing from the experiences gained from the companies to which we provide business consultancy. It is that the Key Result Areas of every position are predetermined. The chances of your promotion or growth increase as the gap between the Key Result Areas of the higher position and the Key Result Areas you deliver decreases.

To reduce this gap, let us first become aware of what exactly the Key Result Areas of that position are. If you wish, you can talk to the person who worked in that position before you or the easiest way is to go and talk to your boss tomorrow itself. He will tell you what is expected from that position and then you can start working on yourself accordingly.

By minimizing and eventually eliminating the gap between the Key Result Areas of that chair and the skills you have, you become ready for promotion. Bosses always want employees who lighten their burden. Try this out and let me know the results.
