The ability to produce thoughts and the ability to think are two distinct abilities.
Take an example of a car. Suppose we have a car and we also know how to drive it. But, if the car breaks down, we cannot fix it. Now, some people have a car, know how to drive it, and can also fix the car if it breaks down. Buying a car, driving a car, and being able to fix a car, are three distinct abilities. Similarly, the ability to produce thought and the ability to think are two distinct abilities. This is because before starting to think, we are aware of why we are using this thinking facility provided to us, while thoughts are produced on their own.
Even if we have long-term experience of driving a car, if we don’t know how to fix a broken car, then we cannot fix the car on our knowledge and experience of driving the car. Similarly, we can keep on producing thoughts for however long, but we cannot call that ability to be the thinking ability unless we know why we are using it. Unless we know the destination for which we are using this facility. Not only that, but once we reach the destination, we must know how to turn off the facility as well. Because if the mind is your master, then even after using the facility, thoughts will keep on producing. And spirituality tells us that if you want to stop thinking, then you should be able to stop thinking.
Be so strong that your mind will listen to you and not the other way around!
