One of our mind’s characteristics is the ability to associate. The mind can associate memories with various things. For example, it can associate memories with places. When you visit the place where you lived in your childhood, your mind recollects your childhood experiences. So, the area where you grew up is associated with your childhood by your mind.
Similar to the association of memories with places, the mind also associates scents and memories. And this particular type of association can be used to gain more benefits from the process of meditation. Here is how to use it- whenever you will sit for meditation, light dhoop sticks or incense sticks, or use aroma oil that is easily available in the nearby market. Use the same scent of dhoop sticks, incense sticks, or aroma oil by burning a tea light below it for at least eight or ten months. Your mind will learn to associate the fragrance with meditation, with peace! After the association happens, whenever you want to experience peace, all you have to do is smell the same fragrance!
The key is the consistent use of the same aroma for eight to ten months! For example, you light our powered dhoop stick when you meditate at home. And now you are out of station and want to experience peace. Just light a powered dhoop stick wherever you are, and experience the peace and calmness building in your mind! The mind will always relate the aroma to peace irrespective of the place or situation.
