Change Management

This happened a few months ago. I had got a chance to swim after many days and even though it was winter and the water in the swimming pool was cold, I decided to take a swim. I wore the swimming costume, took a shower and went towards the swimming pool. As soon as I put my foot in the swimming pool, I realized that the water was colder than I expected. Still, I felt like swimming, so I went into the pool and started swimming. After a while, I started feeling that maybe the water in the pool had heated up a little, as if it was now lukewarm. When I came out of the pool after swimming for an hour, I started thinking – ‘is this what change management is?’

So, what is change management? If you are shifting from Pune to Bangalore, or you are shifting from having a job in the industry to starting your own business, or you are getting married. Can you manage these changes the way my body became in tune with the surrounding cold water such that the same water started feeling lukewarm?

Whenever we face any change in our lives, our first reaction is to resist that change. However, what is actually needed is just to give ourselves some time so that our body and our mind can become attuned to the change so that the change becomes our routine. When change doesn’t feel like a change and becomes a routine, we can easily handle it. This is the technique of change management!

Friends, it is only a matter of some time. Our body and mind need a very short period to become accustomed to new places, new relations and new life. But, it is our duty to give ourselves time to become attuned to the new changes. You must have observed the change that you had feared in the past; now, you are not scared of it anymore because it has become your routine. So, if you are facing similar experiences in your life, get ready to face these changes to move toward growth in your life!
