From Gadgets To Learning
Have you ever noticed that it takes a lot of effort to concentrate on the study material when you start to learn something new immediately after using a gadget?
When you use a gadget, you engage three of your primary senses- you see the display through your eyes, listen to the sounds with your ears, and hold the device in your hands, hence using your skin. If you are watching a video, depending upon the video, the brain receives instructions through your eyes, ears, and skin. We take in information passively.
Now, when we decide to study by ourselves, that comes under active learning. When you decide to study immediately after using a gadget, the brain has difficulty actively gaining knowledge because it has been gaining knowledge passively for the past few minutes.
A very easy technique can help your brain to adjust to active learning after using a gadget. And this technique requires only three minutes!
One should always avoid using various devices for entertainment purposes during study time, but if you had to use a device for some unavoidable reason, just do the following.
Keep your study material in front of you. Do not open it, do not touch it, just look at it for three complete minutes. And imagine that you cannot take the material in your hands despite wanting to study. Experience the feeling that you want to use the material but you cannot. This will help you to activate all your senses and to get your brain ready for learning.
