Three Principles to Make Your Relationships Stronger

There are three things to consider if you want to maintain a strong relationship.

The first is a harsh truth: the relationship should hold similar importance for both individuals involved. If A and B are in a relationship, both should value that relationship to a similar extent. When there is a significant gap—where A considers the relationship far more important than B does, or vice versa—the relationship becomes difficult to sustain over a long term. If you can assess how much the other person values the relationship, you can significantly reduce the possibility of getting hurt in the future.

The second thing to keep in mind is what you think about the other person in their absence. There is a common misconception that relationships are sustained by how you treat each other or what you talk about when you are together. A relationship is influenced far more by what you think about the other person in their absence!

The third thing to understand is an extension of the second. You may have heard the saying, “When you truly want something, the whole universe conspires to help you achieve it.” But have you ever wondered how the universe knows what you truly want? The universe interprets your wishes from the thoughts you consistently entertain about the person with whom you wish to maintain a relationship.

Suppose your thoughts are, “He doesn’t talk to me. Why doesn’t he reply to my messages? Why doesn’t he answer my calls? He is doing this deliberately.” These thoughts are not very positive. The universe interprets them as you not being happy in this relationship. As a result, the relationship gradually becomes weaker. But if you choose to think positively about the other person and appreciate their good qualities, you will notice that over time, the bond grows stronger and deeper.

Whether it is a friendship, a relationship between husband and wife, a parent and child, or any other relationship, these three principles for building a strong relationship remain the same!
