What can decide the success of a business?

Today’s topic is a critical stage in developing a business mindset. Once you successfully navigate this stage, the foundation of your business mind becomes solid and resilient. Let me share an example.

When I was working at a company, one of my female colleagues was having marital disagreements and was advised to have a child. The idea was that despite their conflicts, the responsibility of a child would keep them together. If the reason for bringing a child into the world is not a genuine desire to be a parent, what kind of future would this child face?

Similarly, if you are starting a business because you are tired of your job, seeking financial stability, fulfilling someone else’s dream, or due to any reason other than a genuine love for business, it is time to rethink! A business that has not been started with a genuine desire will not have a strong foundation.

Let’s consider an example from the world of cricket. We have seen that after earning significant income through endorsement, some cricketers’ career in cricket deteriorates, while some cricketers’ career continues to excel. What determines this fate? It is their passion for cricket! If their passion for money outweighs their passion for cricket, their performance will drop and so will their careers.

And similarly, if your passion for business is outweighed by any other reason, your business performance will drop. And the moment challenges arise—be it conflicts at home, inconsistent income, or unanticipated difficulties—you might feel like quitting and returning to a job.

However, if your business is rooted in genuine passion, you will persist through hardships and find ways to overcome them. The difference between upholding the business and giving up often boils down to this: Are you doing it out of passion, or is it merely a reaction to something else?

If you are considering entering the business world, ask yourself this critical question: Why do I want to start a business? Because if ‘what you are passionate about’ and ‘what you are earning from’ are different, then the foundation of your business is likely to be fragile.
