How to effectively express your love?

Imagine a scenario where a candidate heads to a job interview. If he successfully clears it, he’ll be made the pilot of an aircraft. However, he shows up in a tracksuit – a casual outfit he typically wears for jogging. This wasn’t an intentional choice but a constraint; he only had that tracksuit, with no formal attire or blazer in his wardrobe. Given these circumstances, what do you think the outcome might be? Would he have an easy time being selected, or would his attire present a challenge?

On the other hand, picture someone attending an interview for a gym instructor position, dressed in a blazer and formal wear. Would this choice of clothing make it easier or harder to crack that interview? In this case, the tracksuit – the very attire he wore for jogging might actually be more suitable than the formal blazer. It’s almost common sense to dress in line with the context, not just based on what’s available in your closet.

Similarly, when expressing love or affection, many of us instinctively demonstrate it the way we understand love, expecting it to resonate with the other person. For instance, we wish to show our admiration to someone. While they might find love in a simple act – like touching their feet as a sign of respect – we could be giving expensive gifts, thinking that’s the best way to express affection. When this fails to connect, we’re left wondering why they’re not happy or appreciative. The reason often lies in the mismatch between our display of affection and their understanding of love. They might appreciate a gesture that reflects respect and tradition, like a touch of the feet, far more than any material gift.

Try to love the way the receiver understands love instead of loving the way we know how to love. The genuine connection lies in resonating with the other person’s love language!
